The original DeepNude application was released in 2019 and demonstrated that AI could convincingly remove clothing from photos using a conditional GAN architecture. Since then, the technology has advanced dramatically — modern tools like Nudify.im use diffusion models that produce far more realistic results with none of the telltale artefacts of older systems.
Generative adversarial networks work by training two neural networks simultaneously: a generator that creates fake images and a discriminator that tries to detect fakes. Through millions of training iterations, the generator learns to produce images realistic enough to fool the discriminator.
